The 1968 Dodge Dart was hot with the 440 engine, but Chrysler also made an even hotter limited number of ultra high performance Darts equipped with a HEMI® engine. These were light weight Dart GTS hardtops and Chrysler noted they were “intended for use in supervised acceleration trials and not intended for general highway use” and were delivered with no warranty. The second-generation Camaro was produced from 1970 though 1981. After being on hiatus for 1975 and ’76, the Z28® returned as the Camaro lineup’s high-performance model in 1977. The 1981 Z28 was powered by a 350 cu in (5.7L) V8 rated at 175 horsepower. For the first time, the small-block engine was equipped with a Computer Command Control unit that helped it meet tightening emissions regulations in the United States. Compared to lesser Camaros, Z28 had a racier exterior appearance thanks to unique features including a rear-facing hood scoop and bold three-color body stripes. Optional T-top roof panels were also a popular option with sun-loving buyers.

Introduced at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Ford’s Mustang became an instant hit. By 1971, Mustang was wearing the original pony car’s third restyling. Sleeker than previous Mustangs, the ‘71 followed the classic American design formula of longer, lower, and wider.

In 1969 and ’70, there were two “Boss” performance Mustangs. For 1971 they were replaced with a single Boss 351 model based on the racy SportsRoof body style. Under the twin-scooped Ram Air hood was a specially modified 330-horsepower 351-cubic-inch “Cleveland” small-block V-8. The golden age of muscle was quickly winding down, and production of the one-year-and-out Boss 351 totaled only 1806 units.

The 1957 Chevrolet® Bel Air® is arguably one of the most popular cars ever built by General Motors. It’s a true American classic that remains popular with restorers and hot rodders. Highlights of the ’57 Chevy® included the newly optional fuel-injected 283-cubic-inch V-8 engine which in top form was rated at 283 horsepower, meeting the mythical standard of one horsepower per cubic inch of displacement.

This highly detailed 1/25-scale Revell kit of the ’57 Chevy Bel Air two-door sedan is made from modern-era tooling and can be built factory stock or as a tastefully modified street machine with a lowered suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and custom wheels with low-profile tires. The highly detailed Chevy small-block V-8 engine can be built with the iconic Rochester fuel-injection system, a factory-stock four-barrel carburetor setup, or hot rodded with chrome dress-up parts including an open-element air cleaner, alternator, and custom finned valve covers.

Today’s truck enthusiasts refer to the different generations of Chevrolet® full-size pickups with various nicknames, and this style Silverado® is known as the NBS (New Body Style). When it was introduced, the ’99 Chevy® Silverado® 1500 boasted all-new styling, all-new Vortec V-8 engines, and an all-new frame design with a state-of-the-art hydroformed forward section. Other new standard features included a passenger-side rear door on extended-cab models, along with four-wheel disc brakes. Your new Revell kit has been reworked in contemporary street-truck style. We’ve left the now-classic design mostly intact including the factory wheels and tires, but we’ve added a dropped suspension and a custom exhaust system. Optional parts include a set of “big-n-little” 20- and 21-inch low-profile tires on wild five-spoke wheels and a roof-mounted rear spoiler.

The street rod phenomenon really got going in the early 1950s.  There was a good supply of old 29s Fords around, and the new overhead valve V-8s were hitting the market.  This was the perfect combination for a young man who was good with his hands.  The Model A Street Rods were light, powerful and cheap to build. But most importantly they were very fast!

As the years have gone by, hot rods have become more sophisticated and more expensive.  They are no longer just an outlet for teenagers to go fast.  They have been replaced by Muscle Cars and highly tuned import cars.  Today, the parts are custom made just for street rods.  It has become an entire industry, and it all started because kids wanted to go fast.
